RESEARCH PAPER

We, the Garbage Scows, For the Trash Trek Project, have come up with the Idea of a Compost Bin. We plan to get awareness of composting by making an educational website and a trifold pamphlet. They will talk about what composting is and why you might do it as well as extra info about us as the Garbage Scows.

We came up with composting when we were thinking of ways to reduce trash. We had already gone to the recycling plant and talked to two professionals in the field. We also did research on the biggest causes of trash and we found that it was organic waste. After the research, we decided to do composting since it changed organic waste into fertilizer. Before composting we had several other ideas that didn’t work quite as well. One of our ideas was having hotels stop using plastic key cards and making them have apps that you would use.

We did a lot of research for composting. Some of the things that we researched were statistics, composting methods, and other composting kits. We found that there were many different composting methods (around 6), and there are a lot of different kits ranging in prices from 20$ to 200$. We also found a lot of statistics about composting. As we did our research, we found a lot of statistics. One of the biggest was that 46% of all waste is organic. Also the average person in a developed country weighing about 170 pounds produces about 2.6 pounds of trash a day. if 46% of that is organic waste then the average person produces 1.196 pounds of organic waste a day.

There are many benefits to composting such as getting organic waste out of your house and making it smell good. It also is free fertilizer so it benefits any plants that you might have. We are adding nutrient-rich humus which fuels plant growth and restores vitality to depleted soil. It's also free, easy to make and good for the environment. We use organic matter that we would normally throw out to help the environment.

Our goals for the composting bin are simple. We want to make a better, easier composting bin so that more people will use composting more often. We want to do this so that it will reduce the amount of organic waste around the world.

We will have several things in our composting kit such as the composting bin, instructions, and a pamphlet that has a link to our website. the instructions will have basic information on how to do composting and our website will have more.

Some methods of marketing that we plan to use are our website and some form of advertising. We’re going try to sell it first to friends and family and if they like it we’re going to try to sell it to others.

Reasons why people would want our composting kit over others would be because ours isn’t that expensive and it’s very easy to do. There aren’t many kits that are cheap and easy to use so ours will be different in some ways.

Overall, Our idea is the composting bin and we think it’s a good idea. We have done a lot of research and our idea is very possible.
