How to Compost

The first step to making our compost bin is to cut a 4in tall hole by 9in long hole about 1in off the bottom of the bin in the front. Ten put a piece of wood which is just a little bit bigger then those parameters and tape it down with duct tape. It should look like this…
The second step is to take 4 thin pieces of wood and glue them to the inside of the bin on the inner walls and let them dry. You should use glue and I recommend doing it two at a time not all four at the same time. After they dry you proceed onto the next step…
The third step is to cut the metal grate/grill cover to be just a bit bigger then the actual bin top size and push it down so it bends a little bit to help with displacing the weight of the “waste” and keeps the grate secure. The final byproduct should look like this…
And with that you should be done with building your compost bin. Have fun and remember to not add a whole lot or the bin will collapse on its self and you will have to rebuild it. Also remember to keep it out of reach from raccoons and possums…
Day one: I just collected some materials for compost. I picked up some dead leaves, banana peels, apple rinds, some small tomatoes and rotten wood chips. I also chunked in a bit of dirt. For a 1 foot by 6 inch compost bin, I think it's holding pretty well.
Day thirty: Everything is starting to decompose, but because I have not been moving it around that much, it is not heating up; there is little activity going on. I also should have broken up the organic parts, as my tomatoes have not even started to begin shriveling.
